Important Notice re IDA AGM 2020

(08 Sep 2020)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Irish Dental Association will take place on Saturday, September 26th commencing at 10.30am.

In view of the current pandemic and the State’s advice in regard to indoor gatherings, the Association obtained legal advice having regard to the union’s own constitutional requirements as well as case law and statutory provisions in regard to the hosting of the AGM. Legal advice from Senior Counsel confirmed that it would be advisable and appropriate to make new arrangements for the hosting of our AGM in the current circumstances.

The Association’s Management Committee has approved new arrangements which will see the AGM convened in a hybrid manner whereby all eligible IDA members will be invited to participate via a virtual platform.  The original arrangement to host the AGM in the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place has therefore been abandoned.  Further information on how to register in advance of the AGM, how to participate by submitting any queries prior to the AGM and the general arrangements for the conduct of the AGM will issue separately to all members shortly.

In regard to nominations as Officers to be considered at the AGM, Dr Clodagh McAllister has been nominated as President Elect for 2020/2021. Mr Seamus Rogers has been nominated for the position of Honorary Treasurer Designate. Dr Anne O’Neill will assume office as President at the AGM in succession to Professor Leo Stassen.

In accordance with the changes agreed at the 2019 EGM of the Irish Dental Union (now known as the Irish Dental Association), the AGM will also see the first ever independent non-executive directors join the Management Committee of the Association.
