Dental Complaints Service Publishes 2019 Annual Report

(27 Oct 2020)

The 2019 annual report of the Dental Complaints Resolution Service has been published.

The Service handled its 1,000th complaint in 2020 and has established itself as an essential service for dentists and patients since it commenced in 2012. The Services offers a free, voluntary, quick, and informal service to assist in the resolution of complaints that cannot be resolved directly between dentists and patients.

In addition to the complaints which are resolved by the Service, many more complaints are resolved directly after they are first notified to the Service.

Earlier this year, Mr. Michael Kilcoyne was replaced by Ms. Mary Culliton as the Facilitator for the Service.  The Association wishes to thank Michael for his outstanding contribution in establishing and securing the reputation of the service and wishes Mary every success in taking over.  We also wish to record our appreciation to Dr. Maurice Fitzgerald, a Sligo-based general dental practitioner, who acts as clinical adviser to the Service.

The Service receives strong endorsements from both the Dental Council, the regulatory body for the profession and Dental Protection, the main professional indemnity body for Irish dentists, in the 2019 annual report which you can view here.
