Dental Immediate Life Support for Dental Sedation Teams
Immediate Life Support is a more advanced form of life support over the more common Basic Life Support. Certification in Immediate Life Support is not only a prerequisite part of your record of competence but it is required to be undertaken yearly by all sedation teams as per the Intercollegiate Advisory Committee for Sedation.

Objectives
The Dental Sedation Immediate Life Support course includes:
- Causes and prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest in the adult and child
- ABCDE approach including how to recognise excess sedation emergencies in the adult and child including CNS depression, anaphylaxis, chest pain, asthma, seizure, hypoglycaemia, choking and other associated emergencies.
- Hands-on practice with your emergency dental drugs for the above conditions including IM injection training as time allows.
- Adult and child airway management using positive pressure ventilation & airway adjuncts: Bag Valve Mask, oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal airways and i-gels.
- BLS and defibrillation.
- Adult and Paediatric cardiac arrest scenarios.
- Team roles and responsibilities.
