IDA Response to Survey on Dental Fees

IDA Response to Survey on Dental Fees

(20 Aug 2014)

Commenting on a new survey which claims to detail fees charged in dental practices across Ireland, the Chief Executive of the Irish Dental Association Fintan Hourihan said the survey confirmed there was real competition across the country for those who decide to pick a dentist based on fees.

“Most people choose a dentist based on word of mouth recommendation and trust. Dentists display their fees openly and the vast majority have reduced or frozen their fees in recent times. A recent B & A survey showed that Irish adults are with their current dentist for an average of eleven years which shows they value seeing a dentist they can trust and who offers high quality personal service.

He pointed out that the IDA had only seen the press release and did not know anything about the cost comparison website behind it.

“We don’t know how the survey was conducted or if it is comparing like with like.  It’s a cost comparison website so it is in its interests to show major variations. We would always advise patients to talk to their local dentist and discuss fees with them."
