Mouth Cancer Awareness Day is happening on Wednesday 21st September 2011. All dental practitioners are asked to get involved by offering FREE mouth cancer examinations on that day to members of the public. This lecture will prepare participants for examinations on 21st September.

Professor Warnakulasuriya is Professor of Oral Medicine and Experimental Oral Pathology at King's College London.He has published over 150 scientific peer reviewed articles and lectured extensively on the subject of oral cancer and precancer from the levels of basic science to the management. His research has principally been directed towards the early detection of oral cancer as well as raising public and professional awareness of this condition. In Collaboration with the World Health Organization has conducted several innovative studies on screening for oral cancer and is on the expert panel of the IARC to evaluate the carcinogenecity of substances likely to cause Head and Neck cancer. He is Head of the unit of Oral Medicine, King's College London (2000-2010) and Director of the WHO collaboration Centre for Oral Cancer and Precancer in the United Kingdom.
